The Short-Term Disability Insurance plan (administered by The Hartford) replaces a percentage of wages when employees cannot work due to a nonwork-related illness or injury.
To be eligible, you must complete 6 months of employment and work 30 hours or more a week.
When an eligible team members is not able to work due to an approved disability, they may receive up to 100% of their regular pay during the first 10 days of disability through a combination of accrued Vacation and Sick Bank hours. After 10 days, disability coverage provides up to 60% of pre-disability earnings for approved disabilities. In addition, you may elect to supplement your earnings up to 40% using your Vacation or Sick Bank.
Please note:
- Disability payments along with supplemented accrued benefit hours cannot exceed 100% of your pre-disability earnings.
- Paid Leave Donations can not be used to supplement short term disability payments.
RATES/COVERAGE
- No cost for participants (Employer-paid upon eligibility)
- Pays up to 60% of pre-disability earnings per month (offset by Social Security, Worker's Compensation, etc.)
- Benefits are taxable
- 10 day elimination period - payments begin 11th day of approved disability
- 12 month pre-existing exclusions
- Employment with Carle will end if approved for Long-Term Disability starting after 180 days
