To support team members through the birth or adoption of a child, the parental leave benefit provides one week of paid time off from work to care for and bond with a new child.
This paid time is separate from other paid time off benefits the team member is eligible for and runs concurrently with Family Medical Leave (FMLA).
Parental leave can be used within the first three months of the birth of adoption of the child. It must be used continuously and in 8 hour increments. Runs concurrent with Family Leave and other approved leave of absence, but cannot extend the duration of the leave.
Requirements
Team members working at least 30 hours per week with one year of employment are eligible for one week of paid parental leave per rolling twelve month period. Medical residents are excluded. The team member must meet one of the following criteria:
- Have given birth to a child; or
- Be a spouse of a woman who has given birth to a child; or
- Have adopted a child who is under the age of 18 (adoption of a spouse's child, as well as second parent adoption do not qualify for parental leave); or
- Be the father of a new born child
Documentation requirements
Documentation may include a birth certificate or legal adoption forms. Forms can be sent to Human Resources through the interoffice mail or scanned to myhr.helpdesk@carle.com.
